Frank Lloyd Wright's
SAMARA
Usonian Designs of the
John and Catherine Christian Home
Danville, Illinois
September 10 - October 24, 2004
Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959),
America’s greatest architect, developed in his later years a
Usonian style — affordable housing
for the United States (USonian) that blended art, nature and
architecture into a home that reflected the needs of the
resident.
In 1954, he incorporated an abstract
design of a winged seed (“samara,” left) into a Usonian home for a
young couple, Dr. John and Catherine
Christian, in West
Lafayette, Indiana.
To share the results of Wright’s
remarkable creativity, Dr. Christian
is offering Danville an exhibit of furniture,
accessories, fabrics, drawings and blueprints from his Usonian
home. The exhibit is supplemented with a month of
programs, workshops, tours, and other events to celebrate the
genius of Frank Lloyd Wright and the generosity of Dr.
Christian.
